Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
Thanks for praying with us.
This is our last week studying Psalm 119, and we kind of went crazy with it. We talked about the meaning of truth, what it means for God to give life to someone who's already alive, and the center of justice.
But by the time we got to our prayer time, we had settled into a discussion of peace. And not just any peace: "great peace." That combination of words doesn't show up anywhere else in the Bible. The gift of peace that the law of God gives is not just passing or fleeting or comforting. It is great: great enough to hold up the one who has it, no matter what she faces. Nothing can make her stumble.
The desire for that all-conquering peace, that "great peace," cannot be disconnected from absolute faithful submission to the law of God. They go together, and today, looking back on all of Psalm 119, we're committing ourselves to God's law again. By learning obedience and studying God's words, we may enter into peace that upholds us through everything.
Here are this week's requests and praises:
New Office - We have a new home! But construction continues to drag on, and fundraising is still incomplete. Please pray that God would quickly bring together the resources we need to make this place beautiful for ministry.
Sponsorship Campaign - We want to reach more families in lower-income communities than ever before, and that will require a bigger Sponsorship Fund than ever before. Pray that God would move many, many people to help extend the gift of Wheatstone to youth who otherwise couldn't experience it.
Office Improvements Fundraising - Please pray that God would move donors to offer the funds we need to install new lighting, buy new furniture, and generally make the space into exactly what our community needs.
Monthly Givers - Praise God for bringing in more new Monthly Givers over the past few months than we were expecting! It's beautiful to see the community of support growing.
Academy Alumni Board - The first meeting of our new Alumni Board was last week, and it was incredibly encouraging. Praise God with us for assembling such an incredible team to build our new alumni ministry, and pray for us as we move forward.
Summer Camp Enrollment - Pray that God would bring the right students and leaders to The Academy 2016! We're a little behind our enrollment goals for this year, and we want to make sure that this incredible experience gets extended to as many youth as possible. Pray that God would move parents' hearts to send their students.
Holiness Training - Pray for Peter and Chad as they develop Wheatstone's next new training event this spring.
Today we studied this Psalm to help us pray:
With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O LORD!
I will keep your statutes.
I call to you; save me,
that I may observe your testimonies.
I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I hope in your words.
My eyes are awake before the watches of the night,
that I may meditate on your promise.
Hear my voice according to your steadfast love;
O LORD, according to your justice give me life.
They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose;
they are far from your law.
But you are near, O LORD,
and all your commandments are true.
Long have I known from your testimonies
that you have founded them forever.
Look on my affliction and deliver me,
for I do not forget your law.
Plead my cause and redeem me;
give me life according to your promise!
Salvation is far from the wicked,
for they do not seek your statutes.
Great is your mercy, O LORD;
give me life according to your rules.
Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,
but I do not swerve from your testimonies.
I look at the faithless with disgust,
because they do not keep your commands.
Consider how I love your precepts!
Give me life according to your steadfast love.
The sum of your word is truth,
and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.
Sin and Shin
Princes persecute me without cause,
but my heart stands in awe of your words.
I rejoice at your word
like one who finds great spoil.
I hate and abhor falsehood,
but I love your law.
Seven times a day I praise you
for your righteous rules.
Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble.
I hope for your salvation, O LORD,
and I do your commandments.
My soul keeps your testimonies;
I love them exceedingly.
I keep your precepts and testimonies,
for all my ways are before you.
Let my cry come before you, O LORD;
give me understanding according to your word!
Let my plea come before you;
deliver me according to your word.
My lips will pour forth praise,
for you teach me your statutes.
My tongue will sing of your word,
for all your commandments are right.
Let your hand be ready to help me,
for I have chosen your precepts.
I long for your salvation, O LORD,
and your law is my delight.
Let my soul live and praise you,
and let your rules help me.
I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant,
for I do not forget your commandments.
