You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.

Thanks for praying with us.

For the next few weeks, we'll keep moving through Psalm 119. This week, we focused on two verses. The first, quoted above, puts the desire to learn God's statutes in an instructive place: as a response to the goodness of God. You might expect gratitude or awe instead of a request for instruction. The surprise ending taught us that one of the purposes of learning God's statutes is to become like him. Obedience isn't just pleasing to God; it also gives us access to his good life.

The second verse we considered kept up this line of thinking: "This blessing has fallen upon me: /That I have kept your precepts." By identifying obedience as a "blessing" that has "fallen upon" us, we can learn to see God as the author and finisher of our sanctification.

Here are this week's requests and praises:

New Office - It's settled! On Friday we signed a new lease on a larger, more serviceable office space. It has one welcome area, two offices, and one large events space, in addition to an enclosed patio, ample parking, and pretty much everything we were looking for. Praise God with us for this new home!

Moving - Our move date is this week: April 1st. Pray that God would bring the volunteers we need to make it a quick, easy process.

Improvements Fundraising - We have the space, but we want to invest in it to ensure that we can serve our community well. Please pray that God would move donors to offer the funds we need to install new lighting, buy new furniture, and generally make the space into exactly what our community needs.

Summer Camp Early Enrollment - It ends on Thursday. Please pray that God would bring 60 people to register by the end of this week!

Holiness Training - Pray for Peter and Chad as they develop Wheatstone's next new training event this spring.

Teach Them to Pray public event - Praise God for a beautiful, encouraging event this Saturday. We're more convinced than ever that this is training provides the most important message that Wheatstone will offer youth ministry.

Sponsorship Campaign - We want to reach more families in lower-income communities than ever before, and that will require a bigger Sponsorship Fund than ever before. Pray that God would move many, many people to help extend the gift of Wheatstone to youth who otherwise couldn't experience it.

Praying Together

Today we studied this Psalm to help us pray:

PSALM 119:49-72

    Remember your word to your servant,
        in which you have made me hope.
    This is my comfort in my affliction,
        that your promise gives me life.
    The insolent utterly deride me,
        but I do not turn away from your law.
    When I think of your rules from of old,
        I take comfort, O LORD.
    Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked,
        who forsake your law.
    Your statutes have been my songs
        in the house of my sojourning.
    I remember your name in the night, O LORD,
        and keep your law.
    This blessing has fallen to me,
        that I have kept your precepts.

    The LORD is my portion;
        I promise to keep your words.
    I entreat your favor with all my heart;
        be gracious to me according to your promise.
    When I think on my ways,
        I turn my feet to your testimonies;
    I hasten and do not delay
        to keep your commandments.
    Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me,
        I do not forget your law.
    At midnight I rise to praise you,
        because of your righteous rules.
    I am a companion of all who fear you,
        of those who keep your precepts.
    The earth, O LORD, is full of your steadfast love;
        teach me your statutes!

    You have dealt well with your servant,
        O LORD, according to your word.
    Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
        for I believe in your commandments.
    Before I was afflicted I went astray,
        but now I keep your word.
    You are good and do good;
        teach me your statutes.
    The insolent smear me with lies,
        but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
    their heart is unfeeling like fat,
        but I delight in your law.
    It is good for me that I was afflicted,
        that I might learn your statutes.
    The law of your mouth is better to me
        than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
