We give thanks to you, O God;
We give thanks, for your name is near.
This morning, we talked about how reflecting on God's wondrous works allows us to confidently expect that his justice will fill the earth. As we get to work, it's helpful to remember that exaltation comes from God and (in the end) from nowhere else. God's name is near!
Here are this week's specific requests and praises:
Barnabas Group Presentations - Last Thursday and Friday, Peter presented Wheatstone's mission and plan to Christian business leaders in San Diego and Orange County. Pray for God to move many leaders' hearts to contribute their time, talent, or treasure from what they have heard.
Advocates - We're starting a new group of Wheatstone supporters called "Advocates." Pray for Chad and Donté as they put the finishing touches on the new community systems.
The Academy Family Campaign - Wheatstone will soon announce our new Director of the Academy! Please help us thank the Lord for his provision of this major opportunity for Wheatstone's future.
Group Enrollment - Pray that God would move churches and schools to register groups of students and educators for The Academy 2016.
Family Ministry - Pray for a new Advisory Group forming to help us craft the direction of our year-round ministry to parents and grandparents over the coming year.
Teach Them to Pray Event Workbooks - Pray for Peter and Lisa as they finalize the materials and resources we will give to every participant at future prayer leadership training events.
Events - Pray for our upcoming events in November and December, including our first full Teach them to Pray training event. We'll also be bringing our keynote talk, "The Beauty of Christian Adulthood" to brand new communities.
November Gathering at T.H.E. Villa - Pray for school and youth group leaders who are joining us for a day of renewal this month. We'll spend the day cultivating gratitude for the work that God has been doing among us.
2016 Budget Planning - We're in the midst of planning for 2016, and that includes our ministry operating budget. Pray for wisdom and insight as we plan and consider the end of the year, and for the upcoming year.
This week, we focused on the following passage to help us pray:
We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks, for your name is near.
We recount your wondrous deeds.
“At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its pillars.
I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;
do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with haughty neck.’”
For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,
but it is God who executes judgment,
putting down one and lifting up another.
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.
But I will declare it forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
