"Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling."

Thanks for praying with us

Today we discussed Psalm 2. Two things stood out: in it, God speaks to nations rather than individuals (individual kings maybe being the exception), and his message to them focuses on the apocalyptic conquest of the Messiah in judgment. Because, with God's might and authority available to him, the Messiah will certainly conquer every opposing power, all nations should submit to him now for the sake of their own survival. We were led to reflect on the power of Jesus, the surety of refuge when it's placed in him, our relationship to this nation, and the coming of God's judgment.

How does the knowledge that God's judgment will come quickly affect the way you live?
Are there additional ways that you should pray for our nation right now?
How do you take refuge in Christ?

Here are Wheatstone's requests and praises today:

Financial burdens - This remains our biggest request. We have less coming in through donations than we need right now, and it's causing significant strains. God can solve it, and we're working hard to cooperate with him, but we need your persistent prayers too.

Operations intern - We're seeking an intern for this semester. Please pray that God brings us the right candidates.

Advancement Intern - We're seeking an intern for this semester. Please pray that God brings us the right candidates.

Grant Writing - The husband of an alumna is donating some grantwriting time and expertise. Pray that God would give us favor with the foundations we approach.

Monthly Givers - Pray that God would increase monthly giving to cover all Wheatstone's recurring expenses by the end of 2016.

Gathering - This Saturday is our monthly gathering for youth pastors, teachers, and other partners. Pray that God would bring the right people, and that he'd use Chad to minister to them mightily.

Partnerships Review meeting - This Friday, Peter and Chad are doing a comprehensive review of Partnerships, and looking for ways to improve the ministry. Pray for wisdom and courage.

Parents Small Group Guide - Pray for Peter as he finishes writing the curriculum that will form the foundation for Academy Families small groups. The curriculum is called "Peace That Passes Understanding."

Prayer Communities - Pray that God would bless both The Academy Alumni and Academy Families Prayer offerings, and give Veronica wisdom as she figures out how to get them functioning in a maximally spiritually helpful way.

This Week's Psalm

    Why do the nations rage
        and the peoples plot in vain?
    The kings of the earth set themselves,
        and the rulers take counsel together,
        against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
    “Let us burst their bonds apart
        and cast away their cords from us.”

    He who sits in the heavens laughs;
        the Lord holds them in derision.
    Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
        and terrify them in his fury, saying,
    “As for me, I have set my King
        on Zion, my holy hill.”

    I will tell of the decree:
    The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
        today I have begotten you.
    Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
        and the ends of the earth your possession.
    You shall break them with a rod of iron
        and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”

    Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
        be warned, O rulers of the earth.
    Serve the LORD with fear,
        and rejoice with trembling.
    Kiss the Son,
        lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
        for his wrath is quickly kindled.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
