"Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him."

Thanks for praying with us

Psalm 4 is written from the perspective of one who is waiting to be saved. In his need, he returns to the things he can count on: that God hears him, that God sets apart the righteous, that God is his only safety. In light of those foundational insights, he can say, "You have put more joy in my heart than they [his prospering enemies] have when their grain and wine abound." He has incomparable joy even while he waits for his salvation, and he can sleep in peace.

This model of response is key for us at Wheatstone now, as we wait and work for financial provision. Even when situations seem tough, we too can learn to return to God's peace and joy.

Questions:
How quickly do you return to the "bedrock" things you know about God when circumstances are difficult?
Have you experienced God-given joy during difficulty? Or God-given peace during stress? When did it happen? What does it teach you?

You can read the whole Psalm at the bottom of this email.

Here are Wheatstone's requests and praises for this week:

OFFICE

Financial burdens - The longer we wait for God to resolve our financial crunch, the tougher they become to manage. He knows how to provide for our financial needs. Please pray that he acts quickly!

ADVANCEMENT

Grant Writing - Pray that God would give us favor with the foundations we approach.

Monthly Givers - Pray that God would increase monthly giving to cover all Wheatstone's recurring expenses by the end of 2016.

Thanksgiving Party - Next Saturday is our first-ever Wheatstone Givers Thanksgiving Party. Pray for good attendance and God's blessing on the evening.

PARTNERSHIPS

Gathering Retreat - Next Friday is our bi-annual free retreat for youth leaders. Pray that God would bring the right teachers and pastors and parents, who can use the refreshment of a retreat day focused on gratitude.

Torrey Academy Parents Event - Pray for Peter as he leads Torrey Academy parents through a discussion of some poetry this Friday.

Biola Youth Academics Discussion Seminars - Pray for Chad as he leads BYA leaders through some of our Discussion for Transformation content this Saturday.

This Week's Psalm

PSALM 4

    Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
        You have given me relief when I was in distress.
        Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

    O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
        How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah
    But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself;
        the LORD hears when I call to him.

    Be angry, and do not sin;
        ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah
    Offer right sacrifices,
        and put your trust in the LORD.

    There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?
        Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!”
    You have put more joy in my heart
        than they have when their grain and wine abound.

    In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
        for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
